Greystones 14 Lansdowne 11, Dr Hickey Park. 10/10/2009

Discipline is key!

As the dust was gently blown off and the covers pulled back on another season, the Lansdowne Killer Bees confidently strode onto the ski slope in Dr Hickey park to open their account with preseason joint favourites Greystones. The team had a familiar look to it, coach Dolan deciding to run with tried and tested bodies at this crucial early stage. Lansowne leapt into an early lead thanks to the boot (tomato soup colour) of Gants, and then pulled ahead after sustained pressure from the pack with a walk over try for Niall O'Hulahula, a man who does not need to be asked twice where the try line is. 11-0 and cruising. Ex Captain Herman decided to celebrate his newly found freedom from the sheckles of leadership by being binned, there was a suggestion that Keith may have intimated that the ref was optically challenged...
And then it all went pearshaped.
Perhaps it was fitness, or maybe lack of killer instinct, but Greystones did not allow themselves to be intimidated by the uphill struggle of the scoreline. Lansdowne were pinned on their own line and found it hard to break out, tommy malone forced again and again to clear for touch deep into Lansdowne territory. As injuries piled up and substitutions were made the shape of the team fell apart, and 'stones pounced with 2 late tries to snatch victory. when the whistle blew to signal the end of the match there was an overwhelming feeling that it was not the 14 points that they scored was the issue, but the 11 points that we only managed... Some good breaks by Paul Harvey and Justin Comer were not supported, and panic set in too early. The fonz would not be impressed.
Man of the match was Brian Gahan for a bustling, aggressive display that went unsupported. He even managed to insult the sideline!
Life just got tougher gents, i have no doubt that 2 things will happen:
We will beat Greystones at home
Somebody will beat them on their own ground.

Should make life interesting... why do it the easy way when you can just as easilydo it the hard way, eh?
